Key points by chapter

ChapterRulesKey points
Trim, margins and grid21Pick one of six trim sizes; give margins as top, bottom, inside and outside. The type area is mirrored across the spread, print bleed is 3 mm on every side, spacing is a multiple of 4 pt.
Typography22Minimum print size 6.5 pt; hierarchy needs a 1.2× size step or a weight difference of 200. Korean body text breaks between words.
Book structure and running heads16Book parts follow a fixed order and chapters start on a right-hand (odd) page. Total page count is a multiple of 16 (one signature); running heads carry the book title and the chapter number and title.
Contents, numbering and cross-references19The build numbers chapters, sections, tables, figures and equations, makes the TOC and bookmarks, and checks cross-references.
Tables18Tables: 0.75 pt black rules above and below the header row and at the end, 0.5 pt light gray rules between rows, no verticals. Caption above the table, table text 1 pt smaller than body, columns at least 12 mm.
Figures, charts and images15Photos and screenshots at 300 ppi for print; nothing under 200 ppi. Lines inside figures at least 0.25 pt.
Photos58Manuscript photos in sRGB with an embedded ICC profile; JPEG quality 90+ for layout. Credits in 7 pt gray at the end of the caption.
Drawings and blueprints68Plans, site plans and maps carry a north arrow; the title block sits at the lower right with drawing name, number and scale. Landscape drawings are rotated on the page.
Code, equations and learning elements10Code in JetBrains Mono 8/12.5 pt; equation numbers at the right margin as (chapter-number). Learning-element boxes follow a fixed order.
Notes, quotations and index9Use footnotes when there are two or fewer short notes per page. The build fills in index page numbers.
Color and print production9Manuscript in sRGB; offset print files converted to CMYK with the printer’s ICC profile; black text as K100 only; PDF/X-4 for the printer; all fonts embedded.
Build, QA and release7Lower-case file names, edition numbers as edition.printing.build, and a Git tag on every build sent to the printer. Proof on paper at actual size.
